1998: The Coen Brothers' comedy "The Big Lebowski," starring Jeff Bridges, John Goodman, Steve Buscemi, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Julianne Moore and John Turturro, premieres in theaters. The film, about a case of mistaken identity between an unemployed Los Angeles slacker known as "The Dude" and a millionaire who share the same name, struggled at the box office, but became a cult favorite over time.

MILWAUKEE -

White Russian drinks and bowling will be aplenty when Lebowski Fest hits Milwaukee again this August.

This is the second year organizers have chosen to have the event in Milwaukee. Last year more than 5,000 attended.

The traveling festival celebrates the 1998 cult movie "The Big Lebowski," by Joel and Ethan Coen. Fans dress up as their favorite character, such as L.A. slacker Jeff "The Dude" Lebowski, sip his favorite drink white Russians and go bowling, The Dude's favorite pastime.

The festival will be Aug. 16 through Aug. 18 and will include an outdoor screening of the movie, bands and costume and trivia contests.
