MADISON, Wis. -

Thousands of dollars worth of lawn mowing equipment was stolen from Kennedy Little League, according to a release from Madison police.

Police said two John Deere Gators, three gas-powered grass trimmers and two commercial lawnmowers were taken from a shed at 5801 Commercial Ave. last weekend. Officials said it appears someone pried open the league's storage unit.

This isn't the first time Kennedy Little League has dealt with financial loss.

Former President Stephen Verhage was charged with embezzlement for allegedly stealing $200,00 from the organization.

The league's current president is working on absorbing the blows.

"It's beyond frustration. You know with what happened with us earlier this year and the community has rallied around us, the sponsors have been phenomenal, the parents have been incredible. We've continued to make improvements and now this is just one more thing that we have to deal with," Kennedy Little League President Jerry Benisch said.

Officials with the Bruce Company said they will be helping the organization by mowing its lawn.

Anyone with information about the thefts is asked to call Madison Area Crime Stoppers at 608-266-6014.
