Larry J. Gastrow

Larry J. Gastrow, age 58, passed away unexpectedly on Oct. 28, 2013, at his home in rural Portage.

Larry, the son of Raymond and Mathilda (Pronold) Gastrow, was born in Baraboo on Dec. 7, 1954, and was the eldest of three children. He was raised on his family’s farm in West Point Township. He loved living on the farm and took a particular interest in tractors and other machinery. Larry attended the Sauk Prairie School District and later moved to Portage, where he lived for many years until his remaining years when he returned to a farm setting.

Larry participated in Special Olympics, summer camps, and he enjoyed going to fairs and steam engine shows. Throughout his life Larry always maintained a sociable disposition and a bright sense of humor. He was a long-time employee of Northwoods, Inc. of Portage, where his service was steadfast.

Larry is survived by a sister, Marilyn; a brother, Donald; a sister-in-law, Diane; and a nephew, Carl. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Mathilda.

A memorial service will be held at HAMRE GUNDERSON FUNERAL HOME, 157 S. Main Street, Lodi at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 8, 2013. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Lodi. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.
