John J. Dooley

JANESVILLE--- John J. Dooley, age 91, of Janesville, died Saturday, Aug. 17, 2013, at St. Mary's Janesville Hospital.

He was born in Janesville on Aug. 4, 1922, the son of John and Catherine (Smith) Dooley and was a 1940 graduate of Janesville High School. John served in the US Navy from Jan. 1944- Feb. 1946 in the South Pacific. He married Juliet Johnson on July 29, 1944 in San Diego. She preceded him in death on Feb. 7, 2007. John was employed at Hough Manufacturing for 30 years and by Simmons Mattress for over 5 years. He retired in 1985, and was a proud employee of the Janesville Wagon Company for the last 25 years. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Janesville, the American Legion, VFW, the Elks Club, and the Golden K.

John is survived by his 3 children: Jean (Ingvar) Carlson of Rockford, IL, John (Marge) Dooley of Sun Prairie, and Jane Dooley of Janesville; 6 grandchildren: Jon (Stacie) Dooley of Milwaukee, Bret (Elizabeth) Dooley of Short Hills, NJ, TJ (Angela) Dooley of Madison, Katie Dooley of Bloomington, IN, Paul (Megan) Carlson of Rockford, IL, and Mark (Vanessa) Carlson of St. Charles, IL; 6 great grandchildren: Emma and Jack Dooley, Matthew, Sean and Ryan Dooley, and Nora Dooley. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and brother, Fran Dooley.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2013, at ST. MARY'S CATHOLIC CHURCH, Janesville, with Rev. Stephen J. Umhoefer officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation will take place on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until the hour of Mass at ST. MARY'S CATHOLIC CHURCH. Memorials may be made to the Janesville Convention and Visitors Bureau, Elk's Club or the Golden K.
