In recent years there has been debate over whether there is a link between vaccinations and autism. Research has shown that there is no link between the two, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

According to the CDC, the concern between vaccinations and autism mainly stemmed from the ingredient thimerosal. The health organization says thimerosal used to be used as a preservative in many childhood vaccines.

The CDC says in 2001 thimerosal was limited to trace amounts in childhood vaccines in all but one type of influenza vaccine. In influenza vaccines, the CDC says, there are thimerosal-free alternatives that parents can request.

The CDC also says that evidence from several studies showed there was not a tie between thimerosal and autism. The Institute of Medicine (IOM) also found there was no link between thimerosal and autism.

If you have any concerns about your child’s vaccinations, or autism, you should seek the advice of your physician.
