Adults know they have to count calories to stay within a healthy weight, but what about kids? Do you know how many calories your child should consume each day?

Many factors go into how many calories kids need (including their body size, how active they are and if they have any health issues), but one of the main factors is age.

According to Parents.com, children between the ages of 1-3 need about 1,200-1,400 calories a day. The site says kids between the ages of 4-6 need to consume between 1,500-1,750 calories daily.

Parents.com recommends that children between the ages of 7-9 consume about 1,700-1,950 calories each day.

According to EatRight.org, calorie intakes increase as children enter their teens. Boys between the ages of 11-13 should eat about 1,800-2,600 calories a day, and boys between 14-18 should consume 2,200-3,200 calories.

EatRight.org says girls between the ages of 11-13 should eat about 1,800-2,200 calories each day, while girls between 14-18 years need about 1,800-2,400 calories.

Check with your child’s physician to see how many calories your child should be consuming.
