One person was killed and another injured in a two-vehicle crash that closed a stretch of highway west of Janesville for several hours on Friday.

The Rock County Sheriff's Office said the crash was reported on Highway 11 between County Road H and Dunbar Road at 9:35 a.m. The road reopened at 2:55 p.m.

Investigators said a 69-year-old South Wayne man was driving a semitrailer east on Highway 11 and tried to swerve to avoid hitting a truck driven by an 86-year-old Edgerton man which had crossed over the center line and into the path of the semi.

The Edgerton man was found dead and the South Wayne man was taken to Mercy Hospital in Janesville with a head injury.

Deputies said they don't know why the truck crossed the center line.

The truck came to rest on Highway 11 and the semi overturned when entering a ditch.

Deputies said the road was clear from snow and ice but winds were strong when the crash occurred.
