MADISON, Wis. -

A man died after his car rolled over when he was speeding away from a state trooper Sunday around 5 a.m., officials said.

Officials said witnesses reported seeing a Dodge Charger and a Gold Dodge 300 going very fast down Interstate 90/94 early Saturday morning, according to the release.

A State Patrol trooper observed the two cars and pulled one of them over for going 83 mph in a 65 mph zone, officials said.

Officials said the trooper made contact with the driver, Shaun G. Johnson, 33, of Normal Ill., who was less than cooperative.

The trooper got some insurance paperwork from Johnson, who said the car was his wife’s, and when the trooper asked for more information, the Johnson sped away, officials said.

Officials said Johnson sped away at a high rate of speed and drove 2 miles in 60 seconds.

Officials said Johnson attempted to exit onto U.S. Highway 51 but was unable to navigate the curve, and the car rolled over several times.

Johnson was ejected from the car around 4:30 a.m. and was pronounced dead at the scene by a MedFlight doctor when officials found the body 20 minutes later, officials said.

Officials said a medical examiner found 11 grams of marijuana in his underwear. Preliminary autopsy results indicate Johnson died from injuries sustained in the crash.
