Gregory Clawson Rosenberger

MADISON- Gregory Clawson Rosenberger, age 82, was called to heaven on June 17, 2013, after a long, courageous battle with congestive heart failure.

He was born in Arnold, Pa., on April 30, 1931 to Helen and William Rosenberger. His mother died when he was seven years old. Greg and his younger brother, Bill, went to Punxsutawney, Pa., to live with their maternal grandparents. Greg was then fortunate to be accepted into the Milton Hershey Farm Home Orphanage where he was raised and educated until he graduated at the age of 18.

He served in the Army for three years during the Korean Conflict. He married Marian "Paddy" Richter during that time.

Greg attended Evansville College for two years and progressed to Washington University in St. Louis, where he obtained his B.S. in Physical Therapy. He later earned his Master's Degree in Public Health Administration from the University of Michigan. Greg practiced Physical Therapy for 34 years in Indiana, Iowa, and Wisconsin. He was very kind, gentle and generous in the treatment of his patients. He especially enjoyed working with the elderly.

Greg loved reading, dining out and taking long drives in the country. He loved to plan detailed and fun family vacations. He enjoyed flowers and helping Paddy plant and tend them.

Greg loved to attend the yearly reunion at the Hershey Farm Home and to reminisce with his former house parents and the boys he was raised with.

Greg is survived by his wife, Marian (Paddy) Rosenberger; his three children, Naomi Rosenberger, N.J., Michael (Nancy) Rosenberger, and Helen (Brian) Hansen; a brother, William (Nancy) Rosenberger, S.C.; two sisters, Debbie (Rick) Eschenbach, N.Y., and Tracy Rosenberger, N.Y.; and nephews, Randy, Mark, Eric, Greg (his namesake), Alec Rosenberger, and Travis Buchanan; and nieces, Rosemary Crane and Andrea Wright. Greg dearly loved his grandchildren, Maxwell, Chase and Henry Hansen. He took great joy in attending all of their soccer games, in teaching them how to fish and in bringing their Jack-O-Lantern designs to life.

Greg is preceded in death by his parents, Helen and William Fred Rosenberger; and his maternal grandmother, Matella Clawson.

Greg was a fine man, a loving, patient, caring, understanding, and quiet man. He showed his love and pride for his family in many ways. There wasn't anything he wouldn't do for his family. We love him and will miss him dearly.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 22, 2013 at St. Peter Catholic Church, 5001 N. Sherman Ave., with Father Roger Nilles officiating. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, June 21, 2013 at the Ryan Funeral Home, 2418 N. Sherman Ave., with a Rosary Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will also be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass on Saturday at the church. Interment will be at Highland Memory Gardens, Madison.

Special thanks to Dr. Betsy Trowbridge, nurse Kris, Heartland Hospice, especially Cori and the doctors and nurses at Meriter Cardiac Unit for their tender and loving care.
