MADISON, Wis. -

A major grant from Hyundai will help University of Wisconsin researchers in the fight against childhood cancer.

The announcement was made Monday morning at the American Family Children’s Hospital that $250,000 will be set aside for improving an already effective treatment crafted by researchers at the Carbone Cancer Center.

Researchers will take the next steps in immunotherapy treatment for neuroblastoma. They said their work could help boost survival rates.

“It’s not that a cure is something that’s beyond our reach. What we need to be able to do though is reach to make sure we’re able to cure all children with cancer,” said Dr. Paul Sondel, with the American Family Children’s Hospital.

The money will allow doctors to test a new approach in mice.
