MADISON -

Wisconsin Badger running back Melvin Gordon is one of 53 players selected to the watch list for the Doak Walker Award given to the nation's top college football running back.

Gordon was a semifinalist for the Walker award last year and is one of only three juniors named to the watch list this year.

Gordon is one of eight Big Ten running backs named to the watch list.

He's also a pre-season All-American and enters the season as the nation's active career leading in rushing average with 8.08 yards a carry.

The Badgers have had a running back advance to at least the semifinalist stage in the Doak Walker Award voting the last four years. John Clay (2010), Montee Ball (2011, 2012) and Gordon in 2013.
