Gertrud “Gertie” Hodgkinson

MADISON-Gertrud “Gertie” Hodgkinson was born on March 8, 1951, in Tuddern, Germany. She passed away peacefully from complications with cancer on Saturday, Aug. 17, 2013.

In 1977, she met Edward Hodgkinson and they were married in the Netherlands on July 19, 1978.

She had two brothers who preceded her in death and both of her parents also died prior to her. Her mother’s maiden name was Jetten.

She is now survived by her husband; sister, Lisa; a niece; and nephews. All of the family now lives in Europe. She also has a son, Tom, who lives in Germany; and daughter, Yvette, who now also lives in Wisconsin.

Gertrud was a hairdresser when she met Edward in Holland, she was also a floral designer in her own floral shop for four years and then worked as a floral designer for four different businesses in the area. The family is requesting a private service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Lung Association, American Cancer Center in Chicago, UW Cancer Center, or UW Hospital.

The family would like to thank all the doctors, nurses, and cna’s that took care of Gertrud before she passed away at Agrace HospiceCare. Also a big thanks to Attic Angel Rehab facility and especially everyone at Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg, the staff at Group Health Cooperative and UW Hospital.
