GREEN BAY, Wis. -

The former chief financial officer for a Wisconsin-based religious group has been sentenced to four years in prison for tax evasion.

Sixty-eight-year-old Kalmar Gronvall also will have to serve three years extended supervision after his prison sentence. He was ordered Monday to undergo a mental health evaluation and receive treatment while incarcerated.

Gronvall is former chief financial officer for the Shawano-based Samanta Roy Institute of Science and Technology, or SIST. He was found guilty on three counts of tax evasion in February.

According to the federal indictment, Gronvall owed taxes on income earned while he was owner and operator of The Gold and Silver Exchange, through which he sold precious metals.

The Shawano Leader reports Gronvall also was ordered to pay $433,450 in restitution and $20,445 in court costs.
