MILWAUKEE -

The Milwaukee Brewers exploded for five runs in the third inning to defeat the Pittsburgh Pirates at Miller Park in Milwaukee Wednesday night, 9-3.

The win stopped a five-game losing streak for the Brewers.

Pittsburgh took a 1-0 lead in the second on Jordy Mercer's RBI single, but Khris Davis hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the inning to put the Brewers in front 2-1.

Marlon Byrd's run scoring single tied the game at 2 in the third, then Milwaukee pounded Pirates starter Francisco Liriano.

Jonathan Lucroy started the scoring with a ground rule double to score Norichika Aoki. Then, Aramis Ramirez had a two-run double, Jeff Bianchi drove in a run with a groundout and Yunieski Betancourt scored on a wild pitch to make it 7-2 Brewers.

Milwaukee scored two more runs in the seventh as Bianchi had a sacrifice fly and Martin Maldonado drove in the final run with a single.

Wily Peralta (9-14) got the win allowing three runs in six innings.

Liriano (15-7) gave up seven runs in three innings to take the loss.

The Brewers have Thursday off, then open a series against the Cubs Friday afternoon at Wrigley Field in Chicago.
