FINDING HOPE IN OUR YOUNG PEOPLE

05/12/13

Just in the last week we ran across three stories that made us think perhaps today’s young people are a special breed.
“Turn your key and be idle free,” were the words on these signs near Thoreau School on Madison’s West side. The Girl Scouts saw a problem and set about to fix it. The number of idling cars outside the building dropped from ten to three. Wouldn’t we all want to solve 70 percent of our problems?

Example number two, the Sun Prairie Girls High School Soccer Program dedicated last Thursday’s Youth Appreciation Night to Maureen Mengelt and her family. The idea is to reinforce the importance of safe driving – and the influence of alcohol - and rally our young people to a cause that might one day save lives.

And finally there are Waterloo High School kids who were walking through East Towne Mall last week during WISC TV and Dean Clinics Hands on Hearts CPR classes. Prom plans and formal clothes didn’t stop these kids from take fifteen minutes to learn how they could save lives. Are we surprised? Actually, no.
