A company announced Thursday that 144 employees will be laid off after it decided to close a Prairie du Chien facility.

Clinicare Corporation will be permanently closing Wyalusing Academy at 601 S. Beaumont Road in Prairie du Chien on Nov. 8, according to a release.

Wyalusing Academy’s was notified by the Wisconsin Department of Children and Families on Sept. 30 that its license to operate a residential care center for children and youth will be revoked in 30 days.

Clinicare appealed the revocation but decided on Tuesday to withdraw the appeal and to enter into a settlement agreement with DCF, according to the release. The agreement requires Clinicare to surrender its license to operate Wyalusing Academy and to permanently close the facility on Nov. 8.

All terminated employees will be paid all earned wages and agreed upon benefits at the time of their termination, officials said.
