Mifflin Street fire

MADISON, Wis. -

An exterior fire caused about $10,000 in damage to a house on Madison's near east side Tuesday afternoon, according to a release.

Crews were dispatched to a house at 1317 East Mifflin Street around 5:04 p.m., officials said. Firefighters found a fire on the home’s exterior wall that was burning from the second floor up towards the roof.

The fire in the two-story, two-apartment building was extinguished from the outside, according to the release. Crews did not find any fire or smoke on the inside of the building.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, and no injuries were reported at the scene, officials said.

Madison police officers who responded to the fire did advise a day care next door to keep the doors and windows closed, and to move everyone to the opposite end of the building away from the fire, according to the release. The flames and smoke did not pose a threat to the day care building, children or staff.
