Evangeline A. “Vange” McGuire, age 89, a lifelong Highland resident, passed away on Tuesday, October 15, 2013 at Bloomfield Healthcare and Rehab Center. The former Vange Smelzer was born on October 8, 1924 in Highland Township to Dorvin and Odelia (Kroll) Smelzer. She married Clyde McGuire of Highland on February 16, 1944 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Highland. The couple farmed in Highland Township and moved into the village in 1972. Vange also worked at Memorial Hospital of Iowa County for over 20 years. She was a member of Ss. Anthony & Philip Parish and Altar Society; the Catholic Order of Foresters and the Piecemakers Quilting Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clyde on May 28, 1998; a daughter, Jeanne McGuire on April 16, 1962 three brothers, Lauren, Delwin and Lyle Smelzer; five sisters-in-law and 12 brothers-in-law.

Vange is survived by a daughter, Cheryll (Herb) Sigwarth of Balltown, IA; 4 sons, Galen McGuire and friend, Marcia Sugden of Dodgeville; Gerry (Belinda) McGuire of Highland; Randy (Mary Ann) McGuire of Roswell, NM and Brad (Deb) McGuire of Mt. Horeb; 15 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; two brothers-in-law; eight sisters-in-law; her best friends, Blanche Eggers and Elsie Esser as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, October 19, 2013 at Ss. Anthony & Philip Catholic Church in Highland. Fr. Jim Murphy will officiate with burial in St. Anthony’s Cemetery. Friends may call at Ss. Anthony & Philip Catholic Church from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Friday and on Saturday after 10:00 A.M. Memorials to Ss. Anthony & Philip Project Now would be greatly appreciated.
