Patinated surfaces give the illusion that it’s been here forever. Antique molds from a long-gone Baraboo candy store grace its rich red walls. A solitary tin sign advertising police apparel reveals that not that long ago a business that sold uniforms inhabited this space. Now in the best Parisian tradition, it’s a chocolate shop with steaming cups of cocoa, decadent desserts and hand-made confectionary. Since it is a café, Chocolaterian serves light meals—daily quiche, sandwich and soup specials—as well as wine by the glass. A welcome addition to the Schenk-Atwood neighborhood, it would be equally at home on the Left Bank.
