Elementary school receives $24K from Adopt-a-School partner

MADISON, Wis. -

Falk Elementary School received $24,000 from the Foundation of Madison's Public Schools Adopt-a-School partner, the Attic Angel Association, according to an FMPS release.

The gift to the school's endowment fund is the amount the school needed to reach its endowment goal of $50,000, officials said.

"It is essential that we work as a community to provide support for our schools, thus ensuring every student excels," FMPS Executive Director Stephanie Hayden said in the release. "This gift from the Attic Angel Association provides Falk Elementary with resources to enrich the education of all students."

Attic Angel adopted Falk Elementary School in July 2010, and to kick off the partnership they held a successful school supply drive, according to the release. Over the last four years, Attic Angel Association has supported Falk Elementary by donating books for reading programs, providing field trip volunteers, and supporting Falk's Open School House and Cultural Fair.

"The Attic Angel Association's mission is to improve the quality of life within Dane County through volunteering and financial support with special attention for low-income children and the elderly," Planning and Outreach Committee Chair for the Attic Angel Association Patricia Carroll said in the release. "Working to support Falk Elementary is something we take pride in, and we felt that the gift to support the school's endowment would provide opportunities for students and would be beneficial to the community."

FMPS maintains school endowment funds for each of Madison's public schools, according to the release. The endowments provide funding for creative and innovative projects and have been used for a wide range of programs such as career exploration, educational field trips, innovative technology and supplemental educational materials.

According to the release, Falk Elementary School's endowment has been previously used to fund the Falk Pride Event that promotes unity and healthy decision making.

"We are so grateful to the Attic Angel Association for this amazing gift," Falk Elementary School Principal Lynn Winn said. "They have been incredibly helpful in supporting us, and this donation will allow the school to fund projects and access additional resources necessary to ensure a promising future for our students."
