MADISON, Wis. -

A Madison man suspected of drunken driving said he had taken prescription medications before he was driving, according to a release from Madison police.

Officers were called to John Nolan Drive Sunday evening for a report of an erratic driver. The suspect car was pulled over at Broom Street.

Police said Kennen M. Hawkins, 52, was unsteady on his feet, his speech was slurred and he performed poorly during field sobriety tests.

Hawkins told police he had not been drinking but had taken prescription medications. He was arrested on suspicion of fourth-offense operating while under the influence.
