MADISON, Wis. -

The drivers of the cars in a two-vehicle accident west of Columbus were taken to the hospital by Med Flight Wednesday night, officials said.

The Columbia County Sheriff's Office said deputies responded to a report of a crash on Highway 60 just east of Wendt Road at 8:06 p.m.

Tanya Hohlstein, 28, of Rio was eastbound on Highway 60 when her car crossed the center line and collided head-on with a car driven by 37-year-old Mary Klitzke of Arlington, according to the report.

Both drivers had to be extricated from their cars and were taken by helicopter to UW Hospital in Madison, the sheriff's department said.

Their medical condition was not known Thursday morning, officials said.

Hohlstein was referred to the Columbia County District Attorney's Office on six charges including second-offense operating while intoxicated causing injury, operating after revocation causing great bodily harm, bail-jumping, possession of synthetic marijuana, possession of paraphernalia and operating left of center, the report said.

Multiple area agencies responded to the crash.
