Dr. LeRoy G. Walsh

MADISON/EDGERTON -Dr. LeRoy Walsh, age 81, died on July 25, 2014 at Edgerton Care Center after a lengthy illness.

LeRoy was born on October 17, 1932 in Port Washington, son of the late Frank and Harriet (Link) Walsh. On June 2, he celebrated 56 years of marriage to his devoted wife Mary Ann (Witcpalek).

LeRoy was a 1950 graduate of Port Washington High School and 1954 graduate of Marquette University. He received his medical degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison Medical School in 1958 and completed his internship at Saint Mary’s Hospital. “Doc” opened his medical practice in 1958 on North Sherman Avenue in Madison, retiring in June 2003 after 45 years of service to his patients and the community. He served as the Medical Director for Belmont Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center, Madison.

Besides his love for practicing medicine, "Doc" was an enthusiastic Wisconsin sports fan enjoying all things related to the Badgers, Packers, and Brewers. As his boys grew, he was heavily involved in youth hockey organizations in the Madison area, serving as team doctor and manager for many teams within the Madison Lakers and Madison Capitols Youth Hockey organizations. Later this summer he will be honored by being inducted into the Madison Capitols Hockey Hall of Fame.He also enjoyed collecting Emmett Kelly clown memorabilia and spending time with his family."

Survivors include his wife Mary Ann, children Mary Lee (Tom) Lehr of Appleton, Michael (LaToya) of Hartford, Mark of Madison, Matthew (Ann) of Janesville and Waunakee, Martin (Jill Kelderman) of West Palm Beach, Florida. He is further survived by 13 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, his stepmother, Laura Walsh of Port Washington and brother, Eugene (Jeannette) of Madison.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST PETER CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5001 North Sherman Ave, at 11:00 AM on Friday, August 1, 2014. A visitation will be at the church from 10:00 AM until time of Mass on Friday.

The family wishes to thank the staff at St. Mary’s Hospital Madison; Edgerton Hospital Swing Bed Unit; and St. Mary’s Janesville Hospital for their compassionate care. Special thank you to Dr. Willie Pangilinan, the dedicated staff at Edgerton Care Center and AgraceHospiceCare.
