Dr. Irvin "Doc" Parsons

Dr. Irvin "Doc" L. Parsons, 82, passed away on January 2, 2014, at home with his family, after a courageous battle with lung cancer.

He was born on February 13, 1931, in Martintown, WI, to Louis and Esther (Drye) Parsons.

Irvin graduated from Evansville High School in 1948. He served in the Korean War as a Combat Engineer from 1951-1953. When he returned he began working at General Motors in Janesville. He attended the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, and then graduated from Palmer College of Chiropractic, Davenport, Iowa in 1964. He established his practice in Fort Atkinson, where he was a chiropractor for 37 years. He dedicated his life to improving people’s health.

Irvin was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge (Master Mason), Rotary International (Fort Atkinson Club), the Fort Atkinson Area Chamber of Commerce, Historical Society and Edwin Frohmader VFW Post 1879.

Professional organizations included the Wisconsin, International, and Palmer College of Chiropractic Associations.

Irvin was an avid outdoorsman, whose passion for hunting and fishing served as the window through which many of us were able to truly know him. He was a member of numerous wildlife and outdoor organizations. He also enjoyed reading, golfing, photography and traveling the world with his wife.

Irvin is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 61 years, Dolores (Luchsinger) Parsons, whom he married on March 22, 1952; two daughters, Denise (Tom) Engel of Grand Rapids, MN, and Coral (Douglas) Clevenger of Plano, IL; three grandsons, Nathan Engel, Nicholas Engel, and Corey Clevenger, along with many cousins, nieces, nephews and their families.

Irvin was preceded in death by his parents; infant twin brothers, a sister, Beth Koeneman; and a brother, Kenneth Parsons.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 11th, at the First United Methodist Church, 320 S. Main Street, Fort Atkinson, with Rev. Russell Frees, Jr., officiating. Luncheon will follow service, with burial at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Brooklyn, WI.

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 10th, from to 5-7 p.m., with a Masonic Memorial Service at 7 p.m., at the Dunlap Memorial Home, 604 S. Main Street, Fort Atkinson, and visitation will continue from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the church prior to the funeral service.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be sent to the First United Methodist Church (Irvin L. Parsons Memorial Fund).

Irvin’s family would like to extend their deepest appreciation and thanks to the doctors and staff at Mayo Clinic, Dr. Michael Goldrosen-Assoc. Physicians-Internal Medicine, Dr. Robert Hegeman-UW Madison-Oncology, Dr. John Schilling-UW Madison-Pulmonary, Rainbow Hospice, and friends for their care, support and love.
