DOT: 149 small airport towers to stay open through Sept. 30

Published On: May 10 2013 04:59:47 PM CDT
WASHINGTON, D.C. -

The Department of Transportation announced Friday it will continue operations at all 149 contract towers, including one in Janesville, through the end of the fiscal year as a result of recently enacted federal legislation.

According to a DOT statement, the Reducing Flight Delays Act of 2013 will allow the Federal Aviation Administration to keep towers open that had previously been slated for closure in June as a result of the federal sequestration. The towers will now remain open through the end of the fiscal year Sept. 30.

The statement said the legislation will also allow the FAA to cancel employee furloughs and allocated $10 million toward reducing cuts and delays in programs.
