MADISON, Wis. -

The Coalition Against Domestic Violence announced it is changing its name to reinforce the group’s mission statement. It will now be known as End Abuse Wisconsin.

“Our new name aligns our identity with our mission” Executive Director Pattie Seger said in a release. “As Wisconsin’s voice for survivors and a membership organization comprised of advocates from across the state, working towards the end of domestic abuse in Wisconsin is the imperative that drives us.”

Gov. Scott Walker called for funding for domestic abuse prevention a top priority in the state budget at a news conference Tuesday afternoon.

Walker said the spending will help provide support and treatment for abuse victims.

“We’ve put more than $11 million in this budget for assistance for a number of sites physically to help with shelter as well as providing assistance for other parts of the state,” said Walker. “And the budget will include additional grants for victims of domestic violence.”

Walker said End Domestic Abuse Wisconsin is not just the name of an organization; it is a frame of mind.

“Because in this Capitol, this is one of the few issues that brings Republicans and Democrats together regardless of party of where you live,” said Walker. “This is one of those issues that no matter where you’re at, whether you live in a big town or a small town, this is something that makes a big impact.”
