DNR to waive fishing, trail fees for weekend

Published On: May 21 2013 06:41:41 AM CDT
MADISON, Wis. -

The state Department of Natural Resources is planning to waive fishing, hiking and all-terrain vehicle fees for the first weekend in June.

The DNR plans to allow people to fish, hike or bike state trails and ride public ATV trails for free on June 1-2. No anglers will need a license and all trail passes for DNR-owned state trails will be waived. ATV operators won't have to pay to register their vehicles to ride on state trails or pay for trail passes.

The agency also plans to let people into state parks and forests for free on June 2.

The DNR says the free weekend is designed to encourage people to try new outdoor activities or return to an activity they haven't participated in for some time.
