Digging Deeper On Homelessness

We want to thank Madison Mayor Soglin, Dane County Executive Parisi, folks who work in the City-County Building and advocates for the homeless for ramping up the conversation about how we deal with our homelessness problem in this community. Unlike many who seem to want to pick sides we think there are valid perspectives aplenty and we can learn from all of them.

It seems pretty clear to us we need to do a better job of humanely taking care of folks who need a warm, safe place to stay while they try to get their lives back together. We also think there are folks who need treatment alternatives to take care of their physical and mental health. And there are some folks who need to be kept from hurting other people, or themselves. This is not a pick one or the other conversation. This is all of the above.

Thanks to folks like the United Way, Porchlight, The Road Home, the YWCA and others, we’ve been getting closer to getting on top of this issue. The conversation just got broader, more nuanced, maybe a little tougher. Let’s embrace it. We’re talking about people who need our compassion and our help.
