Derailed train closes Janesville intersection

JANESVILLE, Wis. -

Police said a derailed train closed a Janesville intersection for nearly 2 hours Friday afternoon.

The Janesville Police Department said the train derailed at the Five Points intersection at West Court Street and Center Avenue at 3:17 p.m. Police said the cause for the derailment was mechanical.

The intersection was blocked for about 2 hours but was reopened just after 5 p.m., according to the alert.

This is the second train derailment in that area in the last four months. A trainĀ  derailed at the Five Points intersection on Jan. 22 just before 5 a.m. that closed the intersection for about 3 hours.
