JANESVILLE, Wis -

Two motorcyclists are dead after a crash on Sunday involving an SUV that fled the scene, according to the Rock County Sheriff's Office.

The SUV is described as dark-colored 2004-2007 Nissan Infinity QX56. It's possibly black or blue. The vehicle would likely have front and driver's side damage, including a missing headlight assembly and wheel well cover.

Investigators had previously thought the model year was 2001-2003.

Deputies were called to the 4300 block of E. Highway 14 at 7:57 p.m. for a report of a crash involving a vehicle and a group of motorcycles. When they arrived they found two motorcyclists lying in the road.

Investigators said a group of five motorcycles were riding staggered west on Highway 14 behind a maroon 2000 Toyota Sienna when the driver of the Sienna had to take evasive action to avoid striking an eastbound Nissan SUV that had crossed the center line. The Nissan struck the lead motorcycle and the motorcycle behind it ejecting both drivers.

Deputies said the Nissan fled the scene in an unknown direction.

Mitchell J. Vance, 24, of Janesville, was pronounced dead at the scene. Devin J. Julius, 18, of Janesville, was taken to Mercy Hospital and Trauma Center in Janesville where he was later pronounced dead.

Autopsies are scheduled for both in Dane County on Monday.

Highway 14 was closed for nearly six hours during the investigation.

Anyone with information about the Nissan is asked to call 608-757-2244.
