Deal With Prosperity Wisely
For a number of reasons including national trends Wisconsin’s economy is growing. And this is despite job growth that is lagging most of the nation and is short of anyone’s aspirations. But the end result is an increase of more than 900 Million dollars in the state’s projected surplus. And we all know there’s nothing like a windfall to bring out the worst in a politician these days.
The completion has already begun with the big prize being not necessarily what’s best for citizens but the November elections. It’s too bad because we think we could all agree on a few key needs and goals. As we said job creation is not where we want it to be and neither is employment. The state has infrastructure needs that should be addressed. And it wouldn’t hurt to improve Wisconsin’s position in the various tax rankings. So let’s make those the goals. Todd Berry met with our editorial board this week and as always he and his staff can help. How we deal with prosperity will say a lot about whether we get more of it.
