Dead raccoon used in anti-drug message

A woman in Northeast Portland put up a disturbing display in an effort to send a message to criminals.
She hung a sign on her fence near Northeast 60th and Simpson, along with a dead raccoon.
Kristi Skeie says her dog killed the raccoon Sunday morning, so she decided put it on display with a syringe in its mouth.
The misspelled sign reads, "This is a drug free cornor [sic]. Keep it up, and you'll be hanging from the fence, too."
Skeie says her neighborhood is plagued by drug dealers and drug users who vandalize property.
She recounted a recent situation: "Little children were walking down the street and I was trying to handle this situation there and the mother said to me, 'look on the ground.' There was a drug deal laying right there. And, you know what? Those little kids don't need to be around that."
KPTV received emails from several views upset about the grisly display.
Police said there's nothing apparently illegal about the raccoon and the accompanying sign, although it would have been a different matter if the woman had killed the raccoon instead of her dog.
