MADISON, Wis. -

Dane County Board Chair John Hendrick announced Monday he will not be seeking re-election as chair, according to a release.

“Since becoming board chair on Jan. 7, 2013, I have had the opportunity to work with county supervisors from 36 other districts, with excellent county board staff and so many other officials and employees, as well as the other members of the larger Dane County Community,” Hendrick said in the release. “Reviewing the past 15 months, I’m proud of what we accomplished together.

Hendrick plans to stay on as a supervisor, and cited the board’s work on collective bargaining, homelessness, sustainability and racial disparities as initiatives he worked on as chair.

He said the past year has given him a new appreciation that county government is where communities come together.

“It’s been an honor to lead the county board and now I look forward to two more years as just one more supervisor," Hendrick said.
