Creative Economic Development

We have to admit we’ve been somewhat negligent recently in promoting what we believe to be a key ingredient for the economic growth and vitality of this state. We’ve been distracted by all the political noise and nonsense that has obsessed our legislators and the importance of supporting the arts sector of our economy has gotten lost in the pile on our desks. But there’s a new bill being considered that gives us an opportunity to get back on track and we’re jumping at that chance.

State Senator Sheila Harsdorf and Representative Dean Kaufert, both Republicans; have co-authored the Creative Economy Development Initiative that would support workforce development, jobs training and idea generation around arts, creativity, cultural tourism and more. It would encourage entrepreneurism, new business development and downtown and community revitalization.

We’ve long held that investing in the arts in Wisconsin will build the economy. This bill will help. It needs more co-sponsors from both parties and we’d like you to contact your state lawmaker and ask them to sign on. Economic development doesn’t get more non-partisan than this.
