Dane County prosecutors say a Sun Prairie couple stole more than $360,000 from a Madison business over more than four years.
Tammie and Robert Davis are charged with two counts each of theft of more than $10,000 in a business setting and numerous counts of forgery.
A criminal complaint states Tammie Davis, 43, was working for an east side trucking business, CSM Companies, and embezzled the money between January 2008 and October 2012 by writing forged checked to her husband, 45-year-old Robert Davis.
Tammie Davis had access to the business’ accounts after starting her job there in 2007, according to the complaint.
Investigators said Robert Davis deposited the money into bank accounts in Beloit and Madison. He also worked for the company for a short time in 2012.
A manager at CSM trucking called police in November 2012 when 40 checks worth more than $125,000 were discovered, according to the complaint.
An investigation conducted by the company later found a total of approximately 149 forged checks worth a total of $363,240.
When approached by investigators, Tammie Davis wouldn’t disclose any information, according to the complaint.
The couple is scheduled to appear in Dane County court March 10 for a status conference.
