PHOENIX (KPHO) -

An Arizona man was arrested for allegedly kidnapping and assaulting his girlfriend on Valentine's Day, all over a misunderstanding on Facebook.

According to the police report, Travis Schelling, 35, accused his girlfriend of talking to numerous men on Facebook and held her hostage from about 11 p.m. on Feb. 14 until noon the following day.

Police said Schelling thought everyone posting on Facebook was sending her a direct message. Every time he read a "message," he would slap her and at times shook her violently by her hair, ripping it from her scalp, according to the police report.

The victim said this went on until 3 a.m.

Schelling kept her captive and told her he would kill her as well as her family and friends if she told police.

At about noon, she convinced Schelling she wouldn't tell police if he would let her go.

Police said the victim has bruising on her face, arms, legs and has a cut and swollen lip when she reported the incident.

Schelling was arrested and booked into jail on charges of kidnapping, sexual abuse, aggravated assault, threatening and intimidation.

According to the police report, Schelling has spent time in prison.
