BARABOO, Wis. -

A baby sitter convicted in Sauk County of killing an infant in her care has asked a judge for leniency.

Jeanette Janusiak has written a letter to the sentencing judge, Patrick Taggart, asking for the possibility of parole at the earliest date allowed under the law.

The 27-year-old Reedsburg woman insists she was wrongly convicted of first-degree intentional homicide in the death of Payten Rain Shearer, the 4-month-old daughter of her best friend. Janusiak will be sentenced July 14.

The Baraboo News Republic reported Janusiak told the judge she will continue to proclaim her innocence and believes "the truth will one day prevail."
