MADISON, Wis. -

Spring is right around the corner, but many motorists have their minds on road construction season.

Crews originally planned to start work on the bridge at Interstate 39/90 and Highway 151 on Thursday, but have since postponed the project until March 27. They will be closing ramps to and from the interstate, and drivers will have to follow detours.

There will be lane closures at night. Three lanes of traffic in each direction will be open during the day.

“What’s different about this one is we’re kind of splitting the traffic on 39 a little differently.” said Bob Lex, who is the project manager for the bridge construction. “We’re going to use one lane on the ramp bridge to carry one lane of through traffic and then keep two lanes on 39.”

Lex said the project may be delayed because the weather isn’t warm enough to put temporary construction paint down.

Once the project starts, the detour for northbound Interstate 39/90 traffic to southbound Highway 151 is to take a right on exit 135 B Highway 151 toward Sun Prairie; right on exit 100, County Highway C/Reiner Road; left at top of the exit and cross over the highway; left onto southbound Highway 151.

The detour for southbound Interstate 39/90 traffic to northbound Highway 151 is to take a right on exit 132, Highway 51 southbound; left onto Highway 30 east, left on Wisconsin Dells exit Interstate 39/90 northbound; right on exit 135B, Highway 151 northbound to Sun Prairie.

The southbound interstate ramp to southbound Highway 151 and the northbound interstate ramp to northbound Highway 151 will remain open.

The $2.9 million project is scheduled to be complete by the end of August.
