Chamber Orchestra announces new executive director

The Board of Directors of Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra announced a new executive director Monday, according to a release.

The Board announced Mark Cantrell as the orchestra’s new executive director, according to the release.

Cantrell is currently the executive director of the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra in Boston, Mass., and will begin with the WCO in September, according to the release.

Cantrell, a bass trombonist who has played for the Boston Ballet, Boston Lyric Opera and Boston Pops, has been executive director of the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra since 2012, according to the release.

According to the release, Cantrell previously worked as a Captain for United Express Airlines and personnel manager for the Boston Pops.

Cantrell earned a Bachelor of Music degree from Boston University and will be relocating with his family from Littleton, Mass.

The first of WCO’s six Concerts on the Square will be held Wednesday, according to the release. The Orchestra’s indoor concert season opens Friday, Oct. 11, with a Masterworks Concert featuring guest artist, pianist Bryan Wallick, at Overture Center’s Capitol Theatre.
