WISC-TV and News 3 and our viewers took part in Build a Better Community Day.

All day Wednesday, we featured the work of the Goodman Community Center where every year, 34,000 people of all ages participate in a wide variety of programs.

Through donations given by our phone bank as well as online, we were able to raise more than $15,000.  A generous donor will match most of these funds, meaning nearly $30,000 will go to the Goodman Community Center.

A phone bank was open until 10:30 p.m. To still make a donation, donate here.

More information about the Goodman Community Center:

The Goodman Community Center has served the area for 60 years. The current facility is 5 years old. Its annual budget is more than $4 million. Residents donate roughly 25 percent.

The Fritz Food Pantry serves 150 families, three times a week and offers a free, home-cooked meal while they wait.

GCC provides more than 111,975 meals each year to the community. That's more than the number of seats in Camp Randall.

Throughout the year, 500 older adults come to meet friends and make friends over a warm, nutritious meal.

The Goodman Community Center is home to two, full-time alternative high school programs affiliated with the Madison Metropolitan School District.

TEENworks is an alternative high school and career development program which focuses on employment skills and high school completion.

GCC's middle and elementary after-school programs are recognized as one of the top 10 programs in Wisconsin.
