Brewers pitching critical for success

While the Brewers' bats might attract the most attention, starting pitching has played a crucial role in Milwaukee's success this season.

Manager Ron Roenicke's team had the best record in the National League going into Monday's games at 51-33 with a 6 1/2-game lead in the NL Central.

Starting pitching has dramatically improved with an ERA of 3.72. The Brewers starters through the same point in 2013 had an ERA of 5.05.

The team may not have a true ace like the Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw, but Roenicke is confident that the rotation top to bottom can get him deep into ballgames.

Yovani Gallardo, Kyle Lohse, Matt Garza, Wily Peralta and Marco Estrada comprise Milwaukee's starting five. Estrada pitches Tuesday when the Brewers return to action in Toronto.
