MILWAUKEE, Wis. -

Milwaukee Brewers star outfielder Ryan Braun has been suspended without pay for the remainder of the 2013 season for violations of the Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.

Braun was quoted in a Major League baseball tweet this afternoon as saying, "I realize now that I have made some mistakes. I am willing to accept the consequences of those actions," said Braun.

He was also quoted by the MLB twitter account saying he wished to apologize to fans, his teammates and the Brewers organization.

The 2011 National League Most Valuable Player has been a part of a a lengthy investigation into the use of performance enhancing drugs in professional baseball.

Braun is among at least a dozen other MLB players under investigation with ties to a Florida anti-aging clinic linked to the distribution of performance enhancing drugs.

This also isn't the first time the Brewers outfielder has run into trouble with the league's drug policies.

He tested positive for testosterone in 2012 and was suspended for 50 games. However, Braun successfully appealed his case and did not serve any time.
