Billy P Pagel

Billy Pershing Pagel, age 94, of Mauston, WI, died Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at Fair View Nursing Home, Mauston.

He was born on November 30, 1918 to Fred and Viva Pagel in Wonewoc, WI and married Myrtle Mabel Friske of Kendall, WI on December 28, 1939.

Billy served in the U.S. Army during World War II, receiving a Bronze Star and a Good Conduct medal. He was sheriff of Juneau County from 1963 to 1967 and retired in 1983 after 16 years as head custodian at Mauston Area High School.

Survivors include one daughter, Shirley (Roy) Wrezinski of Portage, and one son, James (Robin) of Onalaska, WI. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Floyd Pagel of Wisconsin Rapids.

Billy was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Myrtle, a daughter, Dian, and five brothers.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 31 at 11:00 am at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mauston with Pastor Souksamay Phetsanghane officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in Pine Eden Cemetery, Wonewoc. Friends may call Friday, August 30 from 5 to 8 pm at Crandall Funeral Home, Mauston, and Saturday from 10 am until time of service at the church.
