Bertram T. “Bert” Kupsinel
Bertram T. “Bert” Kupsinel, age 94, passed away on Thursday, April 10, 2014. He was born in Lynn, Mass., on March 31, 1920, the son of Adolph and Bertha (Cohen) Kupsinel. He married Nancy Lee Baird on April 2, 1969. Bert began to practice law at McLanahan Merritt & Ingraham in New York City, then became an attorney with the National Labor Relations Board in New York prior to becoming a labor arbitrator. He was a member of the National Academy of Arbitrators where he met many members from Madison at numerous meetings held around the U.S. Upon retirement in 2000, he moved from Briarcliff Manor, N.Y., where he continued friendships with several arbitrators and his wife’s relatives. Bert had a love for baseball and often told the story of when he was five years old, his father took him to a baseball game in Boston where he witnessed Babe Ruth hit a home run. He proudly served in the military during WWII as a commander in charge of an ambulance unit that followed Patten’s army through Europe.
Survivors include sisters-in-law; Peggy (James) McDonald of Monona, Janet (James) Huebner of Portage and Mary Baird Peterson of Las Vegas; loving nieces and nephews; other relatives; and many dear friends. Bert was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Nancy; and his brother, Roy Kupsinel.
