MADISON, Wis. -

Public feedback gathered during Wisconsin Department of Transportation open houses regarding the future of the Beltline Highway include discussion of alternative routes for traffic south of the Beltline and north of Lake Mendota.

The ideas were listed in a release from the DOT spelling out other topics raised by the public regarding the Beltline Highway. The public expressed frustration with congestion during peak hours, is asking for an analysis of transit improvements and wants more bike and pedestrian routes and crossings.

Other ideas included convenient public parking to transition from vehicles to buses, car pools, bikes or walking and dedicated lanes for specific uses like trucks or express trips.

The ideas were gathered during five public meetings. About 80 verbal and written comments were received.

The public meetings are part of a DOT study on the future of the Beltline.
More public meetings are scheduled for spring 2014.

Handouts, presentation and exhibits from the public meeting can be found on the study website.
