Barn at 13195 County Road W in rural Gratiot destroyed in Sunday storm

DARLINGTON, Wis. -

A barn and some large trees were knocked down by storms as they went through Lafayette County Sunday night.

The Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office said strong winds came through the area around County Road W at about 11 p.m. and destroyed a barn owned by Duane Lueck at 13195 County Road W in rural Gratiot.

A mile west of the barn at 1500 Walker Rd. a tree fell on a garage damaging the roof.

The Wellnitz farm in Wiota Township lost a large metal equipment shed due to the storm. Residents said numerous tractors, a combine and other pieces of farm equipment suffered damage from the collapse. No one was injured due to the damage, according to the sheriff's department.

Meanwhile, the Rygh farm in South Wayne saw man large trees knocked down from the story, with one tree destroying a car after it fell on it. Four other buildings were partially damaged due to the high winds.

Deputies said interviews conducted after the storms said no one witnessed anything besides straight line winds.

Lafayette County Emergency Management is asking anyone in the county who suffered damage in the Sunday storms to call 608-776-4870.
