Badger women's hockey defeats Team Japan

The Wisconsin Badger women's hockey team opened its season with a 3-0 exhibition win against Team Japan at LaBahn Arena Monday night.

Wisconsin scored in the first period as Kelly Jaminski's shot was redirected by Katy Josephs for the Badgers first goal of the season.

In the second period, Madison Packer scored on assists from Erika Sowchuk and Karley Sylvester to make it 2-0.

Brittany Ammerman addeed a third-period goal on an assist from Josephs to close out the scoring.

Senior captain Alex Rigsby made 12 saves before Ann-Renee Desbiens took over in goal halfway through the game. Desbiens made 16 saves.

Wisconsin opens its regular season October 4-5 at LaBahn Arena when Minnesota State-Mankato begins the WCHA schedule.
