Badger fans react to odd loss

A majority of the Sunday football crowd at Lucky’s on Regent Street was looking for a bit of redemption.
Less than 24 hours after a lingering loss from the Badgers, fans in their green and gold turned to the Packers for a happier ending than they got from the Arizona State vs. Wisconsin bout on Saturday night.
Pat O’Connor wears his UW passion on his hands. He sported two rings sitting at Lucky’s bar, both for the team’s Rose Bowl victories while he worked in the Badgers’ football office.
“I had a tough time getting to sleep last night,” O’Connor said.
O’Connor watched the final moments of the Badgers’ road game against the Sun Devils, a seconds-long sequence of events that led to a loss.
“You saw Stave turn around at the officials screaming at him, what are you going to chance here? We can't snap it! He's lying on the ball,” O’Connor explained.
As O’Connor watched the chance for a kick and a win run off the field with the referees, he said he thought about the money that could be lost from this loss.
"It's called management of the game, and the game was mismanaged at that point by the officials," O’Connor said.
Danielle Hoeppner and Caity Gunzel said from what they saw Saturday night, the PAC 12 officials messed up the call.
"We should be owed a couple more seconds on that play, is all I think because we had a chance," Gunzel said.
Hoeppner and Gunzel hoped for some healing from the Packers, especially after another questionable call last September. The moment known as the “fail Mary” against the Seahawks left Wisconsin football enthusiasts with a bad impression of replacement referees.
“Those refs have a vendetta against us. It's like they're out to get us or something,” Hoeppner said.
The Badgers take on the Purdue Boilermakers for their next game Saturday, September 21.
