Another student reports sexual contact with former MSCR employee

A former Madison School Community Recreation program summer employee is facing charges related to a police investigation into an alleged sexual assault at Blackhawk Middle School that led to another investigation at Memorial High School.

Martez M. Malone, 22, of Madison, was arrested in July after police investigated the sexual assault that allegedly happened at the school at 1402 Wyoming Way, officials said. Malone was a summer school dance instructor and is accused of having physical contact with a 14-year-old student inside the school.

A criminal complaint states other students reported inappropriate contact between Malone and the victim, and the victim confirmed the contact. Malone admitted to having Facebook conversations with the student. Police said they found more than 1,000 messages sent between the two from July 11-18.

In September, police were called about another case related to Malone regarding a 17-year-old girl who said she had a relationship with Malone when he was coaching the Memorial High School dance team. The girl told police she had sexual contact with Malone between April and June 2013. She said the relationship started in October 2012 as flirting and continued onto Facebook and Internet chats.

The criminal complaint states the sexual contact occurred in the girl’s locker room after each practice. The girl told police she stepped forward after hearing about the case involving the 14-year-old.

Malone is charged with use of a computer to facilitate a child sex crime, child enticement, sexual assault of a child under 16 years of age and sexual assault of a student by school staff. He appeared in court Thursday and stood mute to the charges. A signature bond was set at $2,000 and he was ordered to not have contact with the students.

Malone was first suspended without pay pending the outcome of the investigation but has since been terminated as a district employee, according to district officials.

Malone is due in court for a final pre-trial hearing on Jan 23.
