MADISON, Wis. -

A power utility company said 4,400 residences were without power for about an hour, though the cause was not yet known early Friday evening.

Annmarie Newman, spokeswoman for Alliant Energy, said the outage began at about 5:05 Friday afternoon.

By 6 p.m., power had been restored to all but 200 of those affected. Newman said workers were still trying to determine the cause as they were working to restore power to the remaining 200 homes.

Storm damage also caused a separate power outage to about 4,400 people in Walworth County Friday, Newman said.

She said winds caused trees to fall on lines, and a pole was down on Highway F. Crews were working to restore power Friday evening, Newman said.
